Open Pit Fired (Primitive) Pottery 1- 2 Day Program
Join the VIS citizens and learn ancient methods of making primitive fired clay pots. A short lecture will be given about the historic Indigenous methods and forms of pottery followed with demos and direct hands-on instruction. We start from the harvesting and processing of the clay. We then movie on to the creation of the pottery with hand building techniques. Pinch pot and coiled methods are demonstrated. Our staff will then cover crucial steps in the open pit methods and shatter prevention. Participants have the option of returning to the Vinyard Indian Settlement the following week OR firing the pots at home.
